I edited and directed Dream Park Island. For this project I taught young learners (10-16) how to animate, after the learning process, they came up with a story and we animated it together.

Dream Park Island follows the stories of Lilian, an aspiring artist whose mother wants her to do science, and Kiara, who dreams of rebuilding the island, starting with a new school. Kiara’s attempts fall flat in the face of an inactive community. The young girls endeavour to use music to advance their dream and they successfully inspire the community but their efforts are undermined by corrupt island leadership.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The goal of the Active Revision’s Animation Programme in 2022 was to work with learners to create a 15 minutes film written by the learners themselves. To produce the story, we ran a competition across the organisation. We published a criterion encouraging more focus on stories affecting these kids in their communities and their general hopes for the future. The winning story was selected and combined with the runner up, it became Dream Park Island, a project all our learners worked on. The Dream Park project will continue into the future with sequels , the island setup was chosen intentionally to create more creative room for our learners to create a world of their own inspired by their backgrounds and dreams.
